A Day in the Life….Strategies To Make Your Day A Little Easier
Saturday, October 5, 2019
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This workshop will provide daycare based strategies for children who have difficulty communicating, attending and engaging throughout the day. Attention, behaviour, play, and communication skills can be affected in many ways by sensory processing needs. Participants will learn the basics of communication and sensory processing and explore the concepts of age appropriate expectations, universal design for living, sensory integration and behaviour management.
They will also learn how everyday routines and activities can be used to encourage development in all children, and how those same activities can be adapted to support children with special needs.
Jennifer Barthel (M.S.CCC-SLP (c), R-SLP) has been a Speech and Language Pathologist working with preschool children who have special needs since 1998. Jennifer works in the community, providing consultative services to families, daycares, and nursery programs. She has presented many workshops for parents and early educators on the topic of promoting communication development over the years, and hopes to do so for many more.
